Riddim Promotion

What is a riddim ? It's an instrumental version of a song, that applies to Jamaican music. A riddim always consist a drum pattern and a bass line. Riddim is the Jamaican word for the English word "rhythm."

Riddims can generally be categorized into three types. The oldest type of riddim is the classical riddim: roots reggae, dub and lovers rock with instrumentals. The biggest known riddim is the Bam-Bam, this was produced by Sly & Robbie.
The 2nd type of riddim is the ragga riddim backing raggamuffin and dancehall songs, example the Juice riddim which was produced by Richard "Shams" Browne in 1997. The 3rd type is the digital riddim, such as the Sleng Teng produced by legendary King Jammy.

King Jammy is well know for the production of riddims, he was worked with a lot of artists. The time he was active was in the 70’s & 80’s where he came with wonderful productions that are even heard today. The promotion part goes by the people, most producers promote their riddim on on-line web shops like: http://www.soundquake.com/ or http://www.discogs.com/ here the Dj’s and listeners can stay updated about the newest production. Also what makes the promotion part are the Dj’s in the club and on the radio. Because if you don’t hear it, who will listen to it.?
